Following on from the wood chipper assembly post, we’ve now been able to give our new Forrest Master wood chipper and mulcher a test run.
I have since posted a full review article of this, on this review page if you’re interested in that.
Set up in it’s chipping form, which would be the main use for this chipper, and the way it is sold as standard, it looks like the image below.

In chipping mode
As an initial test run, we assembled a collection of various sized branches, some of them quite thick at 90mm. The maximum size allowed by the manufacturer is 100mm, so the 90mm branches gave us a good idea of what it could take.

The chipping went smoothly, as it should with a brand new machine. We are very happy with the size of the chips, and so far with the performance of the wood chipper, on the whole.

Mulching with a wood chipper
We also purchased the mulching attachment along with the chipper. This was done with a certain amount of skepticism as we could not find any information on how this mulching attachment performed. We’ve never had a problem using the leaves and small twigs put through a chipper, as mulch. However, if this could improve the compost, then it was worth a try.
It looks like the below picture in it’s mulching form.

The resulting mulch is indeed more finely cut. For more on this, please read the full test article.

So far we are pleased with our purchase, but time will tell how it stands up to some harder use.
